EWB – Maties 2020 Year EWB-Maties is very excited for the year ahead, we have a dedicated, eager and diverse executive committee. Charley van der Linde, our Chairperson, is a final year Industrial engineering student. The Vice-chairperson, Abdullah Esamel, is also a final year engineering student studying Electrical engineering. Tshedza Nephali is a second-year Mechanical engineering student and is the treasurer for 2020. Finally, our secretary, Zoë Thomson is in her third year of Bcom Industrial Psychology. We have some exciting events coming up and our SolarGen project is also in the works. We started the year off by holding our AGM in which our members were able to find out what we have done over the previous year, as well as showing them what we plan on doing throughout 2020. A speed mentoring event will be held in the beginning of April for which we have organised speakers and mentors to inspire and give advice to members of EWB. Shortly after that, we will be hosting the HCD course as a collaboration with EWB-UCT and we will use our SolarGen project to incorporate HCD into EWB-Maties. We will also be hosting our Personal Development course in May for to work towards empowering our members. Our solar gen project is currently in the planning phase, schools that we will complete this project at are being decided upon and parts are being organised. We will be working in conjunction with a lecturer part of the social impact committee of the university with whom we will hopefully be able to collaborate with on other projects.
