Spark Nation Mentorship Programme

In line with one of the core values of Engineers Without Borders (EWB) of transferring engineering knowledge to communities is EWB-UP’s mentorship programme – Spark Nation Mentorship – and Geekulcha’s mentorship programme in which we are a contributor. Our partnership with Geekulcha offers EWB-UP a platform for EWB-UP to transfer knowledge and share skills with high school pupils at the Innovation Hub in late June. The mentorship will require of EWB-UP members to offer mentorship based on the use technology, entrepreneurship and career development to the pupils. The career guidance was ideally be designed for Grade 10 to 12 pupils while the tutoring will be tailored for Grade 10 and 11 pupils.

This mentorship programme was started to increase the number of students at Stanza Bopape Secondary School making it into Science , Technology ,Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) related courses at universities. The main way to this is to expose these school kids to the careers that are out there for them to study. This is done through career days and then tutoring . This was a project EWB UP embarked on in 2016 and in 2017 EWB UP will be expanding the mentorshipby including an IT skills programme along with a Makerspace event .
