SAIAE Conference

Our CEO attended the 60th SAIAE Conference

As part of EWB-SA’s efforts to solidify partnerships with engineering voluntary associations in South Africa, our CEO, Chikondi Gurira, attended the South African Institute of Agricultural Engineers (SAIAE) and 6th Pan African Society for Agricultural Engineering (PASAE) International Symposium in Grabouw, Western Cape, from October 23 to 25.

Celebrating its 60th anniversary, SAIAE welcomed global agricultural engineering societies to join the momentous occasion co-hosted with PASAE. Our CEO, a former SAIAE Council Member and Business Manager, was honored to serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony celebrating this milestone. She expertly guided a program that shared SAIAE’s rich history, with reflections from SAIAE’s oldest living founding member, Prof. Gert Venter, past-presidents Felix Reinders and Johann Murray, and a keynote from political analyst, Daniel Silke.

She highlighted the unique role of nonprofits and social impact initiatives in bridging the experience gap faced by many young engineers while fostering lasting impacts in underserved communities.

During the conference, Chikondi delivered a presentation titled Harnessing Engineering Expertise for Social Impact: Insights from Engineers Without Borders South Africa. She highlighted the unique role of nonprofits and social impact initiatives in bridging the experience gap faced by many young engineers while fostering lasting impacts in underserved communities. Chikondi shared EWB-SA’s achievements, key lessons, and untapped opportunities, culminating with a call to action for engineers in agriculture to partner with EWB-SA in delivering social impact projects through the Just Infrastructure Lab (JIL) and Student Chapters across South Africa.

EWB-SA aims to strengthen connections with engineering voluntary associations, empowering engineers nationwide to drive meaningful change through their expertise and networks.
