EWB-SA is piloting the establishment of Technical Advisory Boards (TAB) to provide mentorship, industry connections and technical guidance to student chapters. A TAB will be committed to a single student chapter and meet with the committee and project leaders once a month to guide them, push them forward and, to some extent, hold them accountable. TABs will provide an important connection between students and professionals and are an opportunity to augment the community development projects of chapters with additional perspective and technical know-how offered through the working experience of young engineers.

This position is ideal for graduates who were involved with an EWB chapter during their student days and now wish to continue contributing to the great work that EWB chapters deliver. We also invite young professionals from fellow sector bodies such as SAICE YMP, CESA YPF, SAIChemE, SAIMM, etc to join us in empowering engineers to empower communities.

    Key roles of the TAB:
    • Providing guidance and mentorship
    • Introducing students to leaders and experts in the engineering community
    • Providing access to needed technical resources
    • Connecting students to funding opportunities
    • Giving feedback on projects and presentations
    Locations:
    • Cape Town
    • Stellenbosch
    • Pretoria
    • Johannesburg
    • Durban
    • Nelson Mandela Bay
    Commitment:
    • Meeting once a month with chapter leadership (from March - October)
    • Voluntary additional engagement by attending events, participating in panel discussions, providing project mentorship
    • 1 - 2 year service
